Mission

The BISON Scholarship Fund is a privately funded scholarship program for economically disadvantaged kindergarten through 8th grade children. BISON believes that: Children have a chance when families have choices - when given the choice of which school their children attend, families are empowered to positively impact their children's future. Setting the right path early promotes success - capturing children in grammar school years establishes the necessary foundation for continued success and learning. When parents make a financial commitment, their children benefit - As BISON's partners, parents must pay a minimum dollar amount every year. Together, our investments demonstrate a collective commitment to their children's success. Investing in education is investing in our community's future - when investing in a child, you are, personally, making that child's future happen.

About

IN ADDITION TO GOOD HEALTH AND GREAT LOVE, THE BEST GIFT WE CAN PROVIDE OUR CHILDREN IS A QUALITY EDUCATION. FOR FAMILIES OF MODEST MEANS, ACCESS TO QUALITY EDUCATION IS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE BISON CHILDREN'S SCHOLARSHIP FUND. FOR 25 YEARS, MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, HAVE HELPED FUND 33,300 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN TO ATTEND SCHOOLS OF THEIR CHOICE.BISON IS A PROGRAM THAT WORKS RIGHT NOW, INSTEAD OF NEEDING TO WAIT FOR REFORM AND POLICY CHANGES. BISON IS A PRIME WAY FOR THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN TO HAVE IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO A SAFE, QUALITY, AND VALUES-BASED EDUCATION. BISON IS THE ONLY K-12 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN WNY, AND THE 5TH LARGEST K-8 PROGRAM NATIONALLY. THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF DONORS THROUGHOUT WESTERN NEW YORK AND THE MATCHING GRANT FROM THE CHILDREN'S SCHOLARSHIP FUND (CSF), THE BISON SCHOLARSHIP FUND HAS GROWN FROM HELPING 200 CHILDREN IN 1995 WHEN THE PROGRAM STARTED, TO 1,897 ATTENDING 85 K-12 SCHOOLS ACROSS WNY. BISON IS SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE IT PROVIDES A HAND UP, AND NOT A HANDOUT. OUR PARENTS STRUGGLE TO MAKE ENDS MEET BUT ARE WILLING TO SACRIFICE TO PAY A PORTION OF THEIR CHILD'S TUITION, KNOWING THAT A QUALITY EDUCATION CAN OPEN THE DOOR TO MORE OPPORTUNITIES AND A BETTER TOMORROW.
