Mission

To develop and advocate for public policy that makes Minnesota's economy more prosperous and fair for all Minnesotans.

About

Growth & Justice in 2018 continued to build upon the Minnesota Rural Equity Project activities reported on in 2017, funded by the Blandin Foundation and by the McKnight Foundation. January 2018 saw the hiring of a new president, Jane Leonard. Additional staff came on to help evolve the Rural Equity Project into a multi-sector, statewide effort to gather recommendations to close the rural urban divides and address racial, economic and environmental inequity through a series of statewide and community-based gatherings and network building called Thriving by Design - Rural & Urban Together - to create the Minnesota Equity Blueprint. In partnership with OneMN.org and the MN Association of Development Organizations and other partners, Growth & Justice developed a set of nearly 20 legislative recommendations for the 2019 Legislative Session, based on 700+ wide-ranging recommendations gathered from over 300 Minnesota community members, businesses, non-profits, and public officials statewide. We worked with other allied organizations to help advocate for a variety of reforms and public and private investments, such as rural broadband infrastructure, housing, child care, health care affordability and access, and more. The original legislative recommendations from the Thriving by Design process and issue briefs written in 2018 also forms the basis of the Minnesota Equity Blueprint report, to come out in late 2019 after extensive research on the key recommendations in Human Capital, Economic Development, Infrastructure, and Climate Resilience/Natural Resources.
