About
Danspace Project presents: presenting local, national and international artists. A foundation of Danspace Project's (DSP) work has always been to foster the work of a diverse community of dance artists at various stages of their development, with an emphasis on local New York City artists. DSP commissioned and presented 11 choreographers in 2017-18 as part of this program: Ana 'Rokafella' Garcia, Jonathan Gonzalez, Jasmine Hearn, J'sun Howard, Orlando Hunter & Ricardo Valentine/Brother(hood) Dance, Yvonne Meier, Mina Nishimura, Tatyana Tenenbaum, Mariana Valencia, Gillian Walsh, and Andre Zachery. Weeklong production residencies were awarded to all of the above artists with the exception of Yvonne Meier, whose work was presented in partnership at the Invisible Dog (Brooklyn). Additional creative & residency time benefitted several artists, including the collective, Skeleton Architecture. Morgan Bassichis, Joan Jonas and Ishmael Houston-Jones/Miguel Gutierrez were also presented, as well as multiple artists through the Movement Research Festival, Food for Thought Showcases, and Draftwork Works-in-Progress Series.
