Our community capacity building work includes developing strategic plans in cooperation with partners in the community involved in economic development, providing facilitation and technical assistance in the community and connecting organizations to available resources. Our business assistance programs provide both direct and indirect micro and small business loans, one on one business counseling, technical assistance, and referral services. Our loan program fills a significant need for local entrepreneurs. Half of the loans we have made in the past four years have gone to start-up businesses. Over 95% of our loans have gone to minority-owned and 40% to women-owned businesses. Our loans have helped create over 440 full-time jobs and 150 new businesses in our community. We are one of the most active and successful micro business leaders in NYC. We particularly provide business development services to home based and center based child care providers, including training business counseling and access to grants and loans. La Plaza de las Toramericas WHIDC is administrator of the year-round La Plaza de las Americas street vendors market on West 175th between Wadsworth and Broadway. La Plaza as a micro business incubator for up to 50. The organization is also the sponsor of a new plaza to be constructed as part of the Plaza NYC program
