About this organization
Mission
Inter District Committee For Project Oceanology was founded in 1972 to enable more than 20,000 students and adults annually to learn about the ocean through firsthand, on the water experiences. Project Oceanology’s mission since 1972 has been to nurture interest and inspire enthusiasm for science and for our planet’s marine environment from our waterfront facility in Groton, Connecticut. Project Oceanology is a year-round, marine science educational organization governed by local school districts and in collaboration with universities and other educational institutions. Project Oceanology's vision is to be the center of excellence for inquiry, and place-based science and marine education serving the evolving needs of our global community.
About
Project Oceanology has conducted year round marine science education and exploration for diverse populations of students throughout New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania for over 40 years. The school year programs for local school districts and the grant based CT river connections serve the science needs for the academic year. In the summer, the grant based CT river instructors conduct coastal and environmental studies along the CT river. All programs, either on shore or in classrooms, provide participants a hands-on opportunity of learning.
