Mission

Essex County Greenbelt is a non-profit land trust dedicated to conserving the farmland, wildlife habitat and scenic landscapes of Essex County. Greenbelt has conserved nearly 17,000 acres of local land and has been directly involved in protecting 75% of the acreage conserved in the past ten years.

Completed 8 conservation projects that permanently protected 103 acres of land in 6 communities. We managed the more than 200 greenbelt-owned reservations; completed dozens of property improvement projects, including building and repairing trails and installing new signs and information kiosks; and formally monitored 165 conservation easements on 4,690 acres. In addition we held 59 events in 2018, including 35 hikes/walks, art in the barn, a family nature series, a film & lecture series, 2 trail runs, 1 bike event, a conference, workshops, and a variety of community events with a combined participation of more than 4,000 people. More than 200 volunteers assisted us, and we welcomed 265 new members and almost 2,000 returning members.
