Mission

South Central LAMP's mission is to provide programs that empower women and their families to reach their full potential in a supportive, nurturing environment through education, building self-esteem, and strengthening community relationships.

About

The Early Childhood Program provided 90 children ages 0-5 (66 preschoolers, 24 infants and toddlers) with 602 ECE hours (or approximately a total of almost 40,000 ECE hours) of developmentally appropriate curriculum to prepare them for kindergarten. Results of pre- and post-program assessments (DRDP) revealed that children ages 3-5 showed significant developmental gains, as measured by their advancement to the top three (out of 9) developmental levels in each domain (pre- post): self regulation (19%-92%), social-emotional (8%-90%), language/literacy (10%-86%), math (15%-91%), and physical (19%-92%). These children, who are all English Language Learners, showed major gains in English language development, with the percentage in the top two (out of 6) levels of this domain rising from 12% to 79%. By year's end, an increased number had also developed skills demonstrating kindergarten readiness, such as writing their own name (15%-64%), using scissors (65%-96%), writing all letters (0%-47%), counting to 30 (6%-59%) and understanding quantity, i.e., most, fewest (66%-96%).
