Mission

The mission of VTC Enterprises is to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their life goals.

About

In 1961 a group of Santa Maria Valley parents organized to obtain services for their adult children with intellectual disabilities, (in those days called mental retardation.) The resulting Santa Maria Association for the Retarded was incorporated in 1962 and provided life skills training, first in a small house and later in a former utilities building in Santa Maria. With 1969 came the purchase of 5 acres on "A" Street in Santa Maria and a new name, North Santa Barbara County Rehabilitation Center. By 1980 services had evolved to embrace increased employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and we became Vocational Training Center. In the 1990s we began offering employment services to people with mental illness, and in the early 2000s to those who are deaf/hearing impaired or blind/visually impaired. By 2001, we were no longer a center-based organization, instead operating many "enterprising" community-based programs and business operations throughout the Central Coast. Thus, since most of the community knew us by the acronym "VTC" anyway, our corporate name was changed to VTC Enterprises. The mission of VTC Enterprises is to assist youth and adults with disabilities or other limitations in choosing and achieving their life goals. With a paid staff of 144, we serve in an average month 335 individuals at the home office in Santa Maria, in the Communities of Santa Maria, Lompoc, Southern San Luis Obispo County, at our Lompoc program, our Vandenberg Air force Base Programs, and at the Ventura Naval Bases. VTC Enterprises is accredited by CARF International, the independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. For over 30 years, VTC has received the highest possible award, a 3 year accreditation. VTC has also been awarded Santa Maria Industry Education Council Award for Continuous Community Support - 2012, Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year - 2011-12, Recipient of Certificate of Achievement for outstanding performance on AbilityOne contracts for eleven consecutive years, Awarded Third Place Award by NISH in nationwide 2008-09 National Scholar Award for Workplace Innovation and Design, Awarded First Place Award by NISH in nationwide 2007-08 National Scholar Award for Workplace Innovation and Design, City of Santa Maria Award of Excellence for Community Development Block Grant recipients - 2006-07, Selected 2006 "Small Business of the Year" in the 33rd Assembly District by Assembly member Sam Blakeslee, and 1990 Community Based Organization of the Year by the Department of Rehabilitation - Santa Barbara District. VTC has also been granted a Service Award by the Commission for Women and is proud to be the winner of the Best of Northern Santa Barbara County's "Best Community Nonprofit" in 2012. VTC Enterprises uses a person centered approach in the provision of services. The service recipient designs their own goals and objectives through this planning process with the support of their team. Services include Employment, Employment Preparation, Supported Employment, Work Adjustment, Integrated Work, and Quality Life Services. Additionally we serve seniors who have recently lost vision, in their home to help them to learn how to live life with low or no vision. We serve people with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, epilepsy, mental illness, communication disabilities, sensory disabilities, deafness, neurological disabilities and many more. Our programs strive towards being the most innovative, distinctive, and continually move forward. We serve people who range from needing full support to living independently.
