About
The San Diego Art institute believes that access to quality, contemporary art is essential in creating a just and equitable society. SDAI is the only organization in Balboa Park dedicated to local, contemporary art. SDAI showcases rotating exhibitions of contemporary artwork every other month in our 8,000 square foot gallery space, either curated or themed around a specific issue. In addition, we frequently have youth art on display, allowing us to acknowledge and showcase the work that is produced in tandem with our education department. We now have an off-site educational facility in Horton plaza, allowing us to accommodate up to 40 youth or adults at a time in art-making activities, as well as studios for three professional, working artists through our artist-in-residence program. SDAI also has a robust in-school teaching artist program throughout San Diego Countys title 1 schools. We also host monthly professional development lectures and workshops for artists to keep abreast of current trends in contemporary art, to best prepare them for being working artists in our increasingly global society, in addition to weekly public programs, screenings and performances.
