Mission

Greater Farallones Association is dedicated to protecting the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary's wildlife and habitats by developing an informed and active community of ocean stewards. Our citizen science programs monitor the health of marine life within the Sanctuary, help the public protect their local coastal areas, and provide ocean education for youth in grades K-12.

About

Habitat Conservation: GFA leads innovative projects to protect ocean wildlife, restore coastal habitats, and prepare coastal communities for climate change. In response to the dramatic decline of California kelp forests, GFA works to restore bull kelp populations along 200 miles of coastline. Through species-protection programs, GFA significantly reduces boat and aircraft disturbances to endangered whales and key seabird colonies. Promoting nature-based solutions, the program rehabilitates ecologically important wetlands. GFA works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance carbon sinks, reduce climate change impacts on wildlife and people, and sustain a vibrant and diverse ecosystem.
