About this organization
Mission
The Lab gives significant funding, time, and space to traditionally underrepresented artists. We seek to transform alongside artistic practices in order to engage meaningfully with visionary communities whose economic and cultural realities have been ignored for too long, to the impoverishment of us all. In this, The Lab is catalyst for artistic experimentation.
About
Sadie Barnette's the new Eagle Creek Saloon installation reimagined her father's gay bar as an alternative archive and community space and culminated as a float at the SF Pride Parade. Claudia La Rocco presented the third book in her experimental trilogy through the performative interpretations of Alexandra Pappas, Anne Walsh & Leena Joshi, and Phillip Greenlief. Poet Tongo Eisen-Martin's 2019-2020 residency includes a series of readings and launches his Black Freighter Press, a platform for supporting incarcerated poets and Bay Area artists of color. We also presented the third iteration of the all-celluloid light field film festival, a major multi-venue exhibition of the work of late conceptual artist Terry Fox, and transcendent performances of work by Liane Radigue, and a free community meal with the imminent feminist Silvia Federici.
