ADVOCACY SUPPORT - DURING THE 2018-19 FISCAL YEAR, CANHR STAFF RESPONDED TO OVER 13,000 INQUIRIES AND REQUESTS FOR SERVICES FROM LEGAL SERVICES,SOCIAL WORKERS,LONG TERM CARE PROFESSIONALS, ATTORNEYS AND CONSUMERS VIA CANHR'S CONSUMER HOTLINE AND THE CANHR WEBSITE FEEDBACK SYSTEM, PROVIDING COUNSELING, INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE WITH MEDI-CAL, ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE AND RESIDENT RIGHTS ISSUES. DURING 2018-19, CANHR STAFF PARTICIPATED IN 76 PRESENTATIONS AND OUTREACH EVENTS FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS, FAMILY COUNCILS, SOCIAL WORKERS, HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, GOVERNMENT AGENCY STAFF AND OTHER ADVOCATES AND POLICY MAKERS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. TOPICS INCLUDED MEDI-CAL FOR LONG-TERM CARE, INCAPACITY ISSUES, ESTATE RECOVERY, NURSING HOME AND RESIDENTIAL CARE RIGHTS, FAMILY COUNCILS AND ELDER FINANCIAL ABUSE, AMONG OTHERS. CANHR'S MAJOR ELDER ABUSE PREVENTION PROJECT (HEPP),FUNDED BY THE STATE BAR OF CALIFORNIA, PROVIDED TRAINING ON ELDER ABUSE PREVENTION TO LEGAL SERVICES STAFF AND ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES WORKERS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. IN 2018-19, CANHR CONTRACTED WITH THE CALIFORNIA DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION TO DEVELOP CURRICULUM AND MATERIALS ON ELDER ABUSE RESTITUTION AND CO-PRESENTED TRAINGS IN LOS ANGELES AND FRESNO TO LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS, ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES STAFF AND OTHER ELDER ADVOCATES. THE CANHR AND CDAA RESTITUTION GUIDE WAS REPRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. CANHR PRESENTEED SEVEN CONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOPS TO SOCIAL WORKERS AND DISCHARGE PLANNERS IN SAN FRANCISCO, OAKLAND, NAPA AND GLENDALE IN 2018-19, AS WELL AS FOUR ON-SITE TRAININGS FOR LONG TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN STAFF AND THREE WEBINARS FOR PRIVATE BAR ATTORNEYS. CANHR'S ANNUAL TWO -DAY ELDER LAW CONFERENCE FOR PRIVATE BAR AND LEGAL SERVICES ATTORNEYS WAS HELD IN NOVEMBER 2018, AND CANHR PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO 30 LEGAL SERVICES STAFF MEMBERS.CANHR'S WEB SITE, WWW.CANHR.ORG RECEIVED OVER 365,000 VISITORS OVER THE FISCAL YEAR, WITH 914,133 PAGE VIEWS, WITH THE MOST FREQUENTLY VISITED PAGES BEING MEDI-CAL, MEDI-CAL RECOVERY AND RESIDENTIAL CARE INFORMATION. THE WEB SITE FEEDBACK FORM ALLOWS CONSUMERS TO GET ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS AND REFERRALS ON A DAILY BASIS PROVIDING INFORMATION ON RESIDENT AND CONSUMER RIGHTS, LEGAL SERVICES SUPPORT AND REFERRALS THROUGH CANHR'S LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE. ALL OF THE CONSUMER FACT SHEETS CAN BE DOWNLOADED, AND MOST ARE AVAILABLE IN SPANISH AND CHINESE. AN ELDER ABUSE SECTION WAS REVAMPED TO INCLUDE INFORMATION ON THE HOME EQUIATY PROTECTION PROGRAM (HEPP), WHICH INCLUDES NUMEROUR CONSUMER MATERIALS ON AVOIDING PREDATORY SCAMS.CANHR'S CONSUMER PUBLICATION, "THE NEW MEDI-CAL RECOVERY LAWS" AND ELDER ABUSE SCAMS BOOKLETS WERE REPRINTED AND TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH AND CHINESE AND OVER 7,500 COPIES WERE PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED FREE OF CHARGE TO CONSUMERS AND LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAMS IN CALIFORNIA.
