Accomplishments

  • Ava is an organization that provides assistance to asbestos victims and their families. we offer a help line daily 365 days a week. callers may reach us to find out about matters related to health, social service connections and referrals to helping organizations. there is no cost for this service we have three volunteers able to answers calls. this past year we have accomplished these goals and assisted 1,825 people. we still make the animal human connection when possible connecting those ill with asbestos disease with emotional support animals. to accomplish these goals, we work with agencies in the area of the family to make the closest connection. psycho-social aspects of asbestos related disease are complex. ava does what we can to address a variety of concerns of the public.   • The rabbit haven project: rescues injured and abandoned rabbits and accepts surrendered rabbits from the general public or the spca in santa cruz, santa clara, san benito, and monterey counties. we then work to place these rescued rabbits into loving permanent or foster homes. the rabbit haven also works in the community, at schools, and with our local spca shelter and other education groups to educate the public on rabbit care, feeding, grooming, medical needs, social requirements and behaviors.major accomplishments in 2018-2019 won shining world international grant -shining compassion award, revamped web site. see photo of award. awarded product grant by oxbow- 1,000won product grant for food 1,000.00 sherwood pet heathmoved location to a more cost effective site. reduced office and storage costs by 11,000.00 rescued over 743 rabbits, 129 turtles, 60 guinea pigs and 5 chinchillas and 4 hamsters from both the community and our shelters - placed 85% of all animals. negotiated gap funding contracts with san jose animal shelter covering $250.00 per rabbit we rescue negotiated 30% vet costs reduction with several of the top exotic vets in our areas. chabot, animal hospital of soquel and adobe los altos plus oakridge. successfully managed 19 serious medical cases. rescued 27 moms and litters. 64orphans.carried out three full adoption events each month and three public education events as well. we have an awesome volunteer base. volunteers contribute 43,000 hours per year. m Expenses $75,698.
