THE LATINO CENTER OF ART AND CULTURE IS MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CULTURAL CENTER AND PUBLIC SPACE SERVING THE SACRAMENTO COMMUNITY BY OFFERING LATINO, CHICANO AND NATIVE ARTS PROGRAMMING, ART EDUCATION WORKSHOPS AND A COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE. LCAC IS A CENTER OF CULTURAL PRIDE, SELF- GOVERNANCE, SELF-EXPRESSION AND COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT THROUGH THE ARTS.

THE LATINO CENTER OF ART AND CULTURE IS SACRAMENTO'S SECOND OLDEST ARTS ORGANIZATION. OUR PROGRAMS SERVE LOW TO MODERATE INCOME LATINO FAMILIES WHO SEEK CULTURAL ENRICHMENT EXPERIENCES THAT REFLECT THEIR HISTORY AND HERITAGE. MOST OF OUR EVENTS AND PROGRAMS ARE FREE OR VERY LOW COST. LCAC IS LOCATED IN A FORMERLY UNDERUTILIZED MAINTENANCE BUILDING IN SACRAMENTO'S MILLER PARK. ALONG WITH OUR POPULAR EVENT PROGRAMMING, WE OFFER LOW-COST STUDIO AND EXHIBITION SPACE TO LOCAL ARTISTS, AND ORGANIZE VISUAL ART INSTALLATIONS, SMALL CONCERTS, AND CULTURAL GATHERINGS. OUR PROGRAMS SERVE ALL ETHNIC GROUPS, GENDERS, SEXUAL ORIENTATIONS, RELIGIONS, AGES, CLASS BACKGROUNDS, ABILITIES AND CITIZENSHIP STATUSES. THE EVENTS ARE WELL POPULATED BY SMALL ENTREPRENEURS, PEOPLE WHO MAKE AND SELL ARTS AND CRAFTS AT EVERY EVENT. PROGRAMS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS LCAC 2018-19: LCAC'S EL PANTEON DE SACRAMENTO/DIA DE LOS MUERTOS (OCTOBER2019) WAS THE REGION'S LARGEST AND MOST WELL ATTENDED CELEBRATION OF DAY OF THE DEAD. DIA DE LOS MUERTOS IS ONE OF MEXICO'S MOST IMPORTANT TRADITIONS AND HAS BECOME MORE POPULAR IN THE UNITED STATES. IN MEXICO FAMILIES GATHER TOGETHER AT GRAVEYARDS TO HONOR THEIR LOVED ONES WHO HAVE PASSED ON. AT LCAC'S TWO-DAY EL PANTEN DE SACRAMENTO THOUSANDS OF ATTENDEES STROLLED THROUGH MIDTOWN SACRAMENTO TO VIEW OVER FIFTY FAMILY CREATED ALTARES - MEMORIALS CREATED TO HONOR THEIR DEPARTED LOVED ONES. THE FORTY-EIGHT-HOUR EVENT INCLUDED LIVE MUSIC AND DANCE WITH A SATURDAY NIGHT PROCESSION MOJIGANGAS, GIANT STREET PUPPETS. MASK-MAKING AND SUGAR SKULL DECORATING WERE OFFERED BOTH DAYS. LOCAL ARTISANS OFFERED HANDMADE CRAFTS. LA PASTORELA DE SACTOWN DECEMBER 2019 - PASTORELAS ARE A MEXICAN HOLIDAY TRADITION. PASTORELAS ARE HUMOROUS MORALITY TALES OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL WITH DEVILS AND ANGELS IN A SECULAR MIX OF THEATER AND PAGEANT. OUR 2018 PASTORELA INCLUDED THREE MONTHS OF REHEARSAL WITH A 23-MEMBER COMMUNITY AND PROFESSIONAL CAST. IT WAS PERFORMED TWICE AT SACRAMENTO'S CREST THEATER. OVER 1000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS ATTENDED THE PRODUCTION IN A COMBINATION OF COMPLEMENTARY AND PAID TICKETS. DIA DEL NINO APRIL 2019 OFFERED FREE ART WORKSHOPS TO CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AT OUR PARK LOCATION. APPROXIMATELY 400 CHILDREN AND FAMILY MEMBERS ATTENDED. EXHIBITIONS FEBRUARY - DECEMBER 2018-19 - THE CENTER ORGANIZED AND INSTALLED FIVE VISUAL ART EXHIBITIONS IN OUR MILLER PARK GALLERY SPACE. EXHIBITIONS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC. IN 2018 LCAC CREATED A NEW PROGRAM EL CORO DE SACRAMENTO. IN 2019 THE GROUP CHANGED THE NAME TO EL CORO DEL PUEBLO. EL CORO IS A CHORAL GROUP WHERE SENIORS GATHER TO LEARN AN PERFORM SONGS IN SPANISH. THE GROUP MEETS TWICE A MONTH AND PERFORMED THREE TIMES IN 2018. THE PROJECT IS FREE AND ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE. IN 2018 THE CORO CONSISTED OF APPROXIMATELY 12 INDIVIDUALS. THE GROUP IS LED BY A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN. ARTIST SERVICES PROGRAM IN 2018-2019 PROVIDED TWO ARTIST WORK SPACES TO TWO INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS. COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAM 2018-2019 LCAC ORGANIZED TWELVE MONTHS OF YOUTH-ORIENTED ART AND CULTURE ACTIVITIES IN COLLABORATION WITH A LOCAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP GROUP, BROWN ISSUES.
