About
CIVIC & STATEWIDE ENGAGEMENT: BASIC RIGHTS OREGON SEEKS TO SERVE OREGON'S LGBTQ POPULATION IN EVERY COMMUNITY, EVERY COUNTY AND EVERY CORNER OF THE STATE. A KEY COMPONENT OF THIS APPROACH IS LOCATING AND SUPPORTING THE VIBRANT, GRASSROOTS ACTIVISM THAT'S ALREADY CREATING CHANGE AROUND US. TO HELP FACILITATE THIS EFFORT, WE ORGANIZED A STATEWIDE LEADERSHIP SUMMIT IN EUGENE, WHICH CONTINUED IN 2018. THE SUMMIT WAS ATTENDED BY 124 COMMUNITY ADVOCATES AND LEADERS FROM THROUGHOUT OREGON. THE EVENT HELPED TO FOSTER A SHARED UNDERSTANDING OF OUR MOVEMENT'S VALUES AND STRATEGIES AND HAD ESPECIALLY STRONG PARTICIPATION FROM YOUTH AND TRANSGENDER COMMUNITIES. WE ALSO STAGED OUR ANNUAL TRANS HEALTH FORUM WEBINAR. THE FORUM FEATURED PRESENTATIONS BY PHYSICIANS, HEALTH CARE OFFICIALS AND TRANSGENDER ADVOCATES, AND WAS DESIGNED TO HELP TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY MEMBERS NAVIGATE THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS TO ATTAIN THE CARE THEY NEED. THE WEBINAR PRESENTATION, WHICH WAS BROADCAST OVER FACEBOOK LIVE, ALLOWED PARTICIPANTS ACROSS THE STATE ACCESS TO THIS VITAL PRESENTATION WITHOUT LEAVING THEIR HOMES. THE TALK COVERED QUESTIONS REGARDING THE OREGON HEALTH PLAN'S NONDISCRIMINATION COMPLAINT PROCESS AND CONSIDERATIONS FOR TRANSGENDER YOUTH IN ACCESSING MEDICAL TRANSITION. OUR VIEWERSHIP 44 PEOPLE IN PERSON, AND OVER 75 ONLINE UNDERSCORED FOR THE IMPORTANCE OF STAGING THE EVENT.
