About this organization
Mission
It is the mission of Leach Botanical Garden to maintain enhance living collections of plants for the purpose of education, research and conservation preserve the legacy of the Gardens founders, John and Lilla Leach.
About
Botany Horticulture-- With funding from Smith Horticultural Trust, labor from two interns, we began extensive assessment of the existing botanical collections. The Camellia beds on the slope, John Leachs historic rock garden and other areas were surveyed and plants identified. We continued tree removal and thinning under the Programmatic Permit issued by Urban Forestry. With Portland Parks we collaborated and contributed to the evolving plans for horticultural elements in the Upper Garden. Our summer lecture series for the second year focused on botanical/horticultural topics-tea, bitters, wine and beers. The volunteer gardener teams did restoration and replanting of existing botanical collection areas. A second intern worked in the garden during the summer. We again extended our hours in late summer to allow more people to visit.
