FHP Program Summary for Schedule OIn 2019, The Free History Project, Inc. (FHP) provided production consultations to independent documentary filmmakers, including Bob Ostertag, Brent Green, Tiffany Shlain, Brad Lichtenstien, Dawn Logsdon, Natalia Almada, Hass Saddique, and many others. Consultations focused on documentary filmmaking in general as well as specific topics such as fundraising, archival research, story support, and distribution.The organization continued touring its project, A Thousand Thoughts, a live cinema collaboration with the Kronos Quartet. The piece premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2018 and has since engaged audiences in England, Greece, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and across the United States. The project has found critical acclaim in documentary circles, as well as enthusiastic support from music patrons and performing arts organizations around the world. Demand for the piece remains strong after an impactful performance year.FHP also premiered two new original shorts respectively in Pop-Up Magazines 2019 Winter Issue and the 2019 Whitney Biennial. The organizations original research for the latter project was archived in Yale Universitys Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. FHP also produced screenings of The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller at Duke University, NC, and Skidmore College, NY, and in Chicago, IL and San Diego, CA.The organization continued production on The Oldest Person, a feature film weaving together portraits of the people who hold the Guinness World Record for being the oldest person alive. Most recently, FHP filmed with 115-year-old Sister Andr in France. FHP will continue production throughout 2020.FHP continued its long-running outreach efforts with the feature film, The Weather Underground, including university, high school, and foreign screenings as well as domestic, international, home and educational distribution.FHP also continued to distribute The Universal Language, a 30-minute, educational documentary on the history of the invented language Esperanto. FHP focused on distributing the film through direct downloads from a website created for the film, as well as educational collections and university libraries.FHP raised money for its annual grant for women, gender non-conforming, and trans filmmakers called The Sarah Jacobson Film Grant. In 2019, FHP gave a grant of $2,500 to filmmaker Mitch McCabe. FHP also served as fiscal sponsor for San Francisco-based photographer Kari Orvik and award-winning production company, Kontent Films.
