Santa Barbara Channelkeeper is dedicated to protecting and restoring the Santa Barbara Channel and its watersheds. Through science-based advocacy, education, field work and enforcement, Channelkeeper defends our community's right to clean water and informs, inspires and empowers people to speak and act for our waterways.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SANTA BARBARA CHANNELKEEPERS 2018 ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:Responding to the Montecito mudslides by sampling the mud dumped on local beaches, testing water quality at neighboring beaches, and ensuring that stockpiled debris was contained to prevent polluted runoff Rallying the City of Santa Barbara to ban Styrofoam and plastic straws.Driving better protections for waterways and communities impacted by pollution from large-scale agriculture.Championing the passage of State legislation to protect California from Trumps plans to expand offshore oil drilling.Educating, inspiring and connecting 1,530 kids with their watershed and ocean.Engaging 630 volunteers in our monitoring, restoration and education programs, including removing 900 pounds of trash from local beaches.Compelling federal agencies to cease issuing permits for fracking from oil platforms in the Santa Barbara Channel until potential impacts to endangered species and Californias coast are properly evaluated. Collecting samples and providing surfers and other ocean users with timely information about water quality at Rincon Beach so they could avoid recreating in polluted water. Hosting 70 SCUBA divers to explore the underwater treasures offered by Marine Protected Areas in the Santa Barbara Channel
