BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF SKAGIT COUNTY SERVED MORE THAN 1,800 YOUTH THROUGH DIRECT SERVICES IN 2018 IN LOCATIONS IN ANACORTES, BURLINGTON, CONCRETE, MOUNT VERNON, AND SEDRO-WOOLLEY. THOUSANDS MORE RECEIVED CONNECTION, REFERRAL AND BASIC SERVICES INCLUDING MEALS DURING OUT-OF-SCHOOL HOURS, TO IMPACT OVER 5,000 KIDS AND TEENS IN SKAGIT COUNTY. MANY CLUB MEMBERS AND OTHER AFFILIATED YOUTH ARE DEFINED AS AT-RISK, AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJORITY QUALIFY FOR FREE/REDUCED SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAMS. CLUBS USE THE TALENTS OF PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED STAFF AND HIGHLY ENGAGED VOLUNTEERS, TO FACILITATE CURRICULUM-BASED PROGRAMS AND HIGH-YIELD LEARNING ACTIVITIES THAT ARE AGE-APPROPRIATE, RELEVANT, AND INTENTIONAL IN INCREASING THE OPPORTUNITY A CHILD HAS FOR A GREAT FUTURE. THROUGH THIS PROCESS, CLUBS WORK TO ELICIT THREE PRIORITY OUTCOMES IN CLUB MEMBERS: ACADEMIC SUCCESS, HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, AND GOOD CHARACTER & CITIZENSHIP. ALL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN A SAFE, FUN, AND POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT WHERE KIDS AND TEENS AGES 6-18 CAN GROW AND HAVE A VOICE IN THEIR SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT. IN 2018, THE ORGANIZATION ADOPTED A NEW STRATEGIC PLAN, "OPPORTUNITY 2021" WHICH WAS THE RESULT OF AN EIGHT-MONTH-LONG CULTIVATION PROCESS INVOLVING STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION. "OPPORTUNITY 2021" SEEKS TO ADVANCE THE MISSION OF THE CLUB IN THREE KEY AREAS: REACH MORE YOUTH, IMPROVE PROGRAM QUALITY, AND STRENGTHEN THE ORGANIZATION. WITH SPECIFIC ANNUAL TARGETS AND METRICS, IT IS A BOLD PLAN FOR THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF SKAGIT COUNTY TO CONTINUE ITS WORK AS A LEADER IN THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FIELD. A RECENT NATIONWIDE SURVEY OF CLUB ALUMNI, CONDUCTED BY THE HARRIS GROUP, FOUND THAT 67% OF FORMER CLUB MEMBERS AGREE WITH THE STATEMENT THAT THE CLUB SAVED THEIR LIFE, A POWERFUL TESTAMENT TO THE POSITIVE INFLUENCE CLUB PARTICIPATION CAN HAVE ON THE LIFE OF A YOUNG PERSON.
