Founded in 1942, the King County Library System (KCLS) is one of the largest and busiest library systems in the country. KCLS currently has 50 library branches spread throughout King County with more than 836,000 active cardholders. In 2020, King County residents checked out almost 15 million items, including 9.2 million digital ebooks and audio books, making KCLS the number one circulating library for online downloads in the United States. Last year KCLS also had 152,498 in-person and online program attendees. ADVOCACY We are champions for our libraries, and advocates for advancing literacy and learning for everyone in our community. FUNDRAISING We enable KCLS to inspire and empower more people by generating financial support beyond what public funding provides. GRANT-MAKING We make possible library programs, outreach and innovations that bring the life-changing benefits of knowledge and literacy to more people, and especially those who are in underserved and vulnerable populations.
