SINCE 1926, ST. VINCENT DE PAUL OF TACOMA, PIERCE COUNTY HAS BEEN PROVIDING FINANCIAL, MATERIAL, SPIRITUAL SUPPORT TO OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED. IN 2018, WE SERVED A TOTAL OF 17,700 INDIVIDUALS. THE FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY OF THE PROGRAMS PROVIDED BY THE PARTICULAR COUNCIL OF TACOMA SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL:1.HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION AND BASIC NEEDS PROGRAM: WE HELP INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES STRUGGLING TO PAY FOR BASIC NEEDS, SUCH AS RENT AND UTILITIES BY PROVIDING IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. WE HELP FAMILIES STAY IN THEIR HOMES, PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS.2.SECOND-CHANCE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM: ST. VINNIE'S THRIFT STORE PROVIDE TRAINING GROUNDS FOR PEOPLE RE-ENTERING THE WORKFORCE AND TRAIN IN THE AREAS OF PRODUCTION, PROCESSING, RETAIL AND ADMIN. MORE THAN 500 PROGRAM EMPLOYEES COME THROUGH OUR PROGRAM EACH YEAR AND SPEND AN AVERAGE OF TWO-WEEKS TO NINE-MONTHS LEARNING OPERATIONS.3.THRIFT STORES: WE PROVIDE AFFORDABLE CLOTHING AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS FOR THE COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE MAKING A FRESH START. THE TWO STORES, LOCATED IN TACOMA AND PUYALLUP TAKE-IN DONATIONS AND RE-SELL ITEMS TO SUPPORT OUR MISSION AND PROGRAMS.4.RECYCLING PROGRAM: WE HAVE A ROBUST RECYCLING PROGRAM THAT KEEPS HUNDREDS OF TONS OF GARBAGE FROM THE LANDFILL EACH YEAR. BY RECYCLING ITEMS SUCH AS METAL, WIRE, TELEVISIONS, CARDBOARD, DAMAGED VINYL AND BOOKS, UNSELLABLE CLOTHING, WE ELIMINATE UNWANTED GARBAGE IN THE LANDFILL AND CREATE AN ADDITIONAL SOURCE OF REVENUE TO SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMS.
