The Womans Club of Spokane is a community service club (NTEE code S81) founded in 1905.The mission of the Womans Club of Spokane is to strengthen our community, preserve our historic clubhouse and enhance the lives of others through volunteer service, friendship and leadership development. Part III Statement of Program Service Accomplishments (3 largest program services as measured by expense)The Womans Club of Spokane (WCS) serves our community by filling our historic building daily with recreational, educational and health-promoting activities for women and their families. WCS provided affordable space for community organizations and individuals that offer dance classes; parent/child exercise and music classes; nutrition education; parenting support, etc. Furthermore, WCS donated free meeting space (total of 460 hours) for 14 programs including Girl Scouts, 4 H Club, Mindful Mamas, Attachment Parenting, and Cliff/Cannon Neighborhood. Maintaining and operating our 1910/28 historic building to house these family-oriented activities is our greatest expense. WCS fundraising events, The Vintage Fashion Tea and Fall/Spring Craft Fairs were planned and carried out by members (462 volunteer hours.) Proceeds were dedicated to building improvements and repairs. Volunteers also participated in several facility and grounds improvement projects. Additionally, WCS members donated items to the Clubs Gathering for Good projects such as collecting personal supplies for women experiencing homelessness (est. value $450.)

  • The womans club of spokane is a community service club (ntee code s81) founded in 1905.part iii statement of program service accomplishments (3 largest program services as measured by expense)the primary goal of the womans club of spokane (wcs) is to serve the community by filling our historic building daily with healthy recreational, educational and leadership activities for women and their families. wcs partners with community organizations and individuals to provide weekly dance classes for children and adults, parent/child exercise and music classes, nutrition education, parenting support, etc. furthermore, wcs provided an in-kind donation of meeting space for a total of 404 hours for programs such as 4 h club, mindful mamas, girl scouts, attachment parenting, cliff/cannon neighborhood, a community band performance and a world relief party. maintaining and operating our 1910/28 historic building for all of these programs is our greatest expense.wcs fundraising projects provided members and volunteers with leadership development opportunities. proceeds were dedicated to building improvements and repairs. the annual vintage fashion show and tea fundraiser committee volunteered 280 hours and raised $ 944. clubhouse work projects totaled 640 volunteer hours (gardening, painting, reorganizing vintage fashion collection storage rooms, sewing ballroom drapes, etc.) in addition, wcs members donated items to the clubs gathering for good projects such as collecting personal supplies for women experiencing homelessness (est. value $400) and swimsuits for children from low-income families to enable them to participate in swim lessons (est. value $200.) in august 2016, wcs was awarded a grant of $300,000 from the state of washington and subsequently an additional $15,000 grant from the city of spokane for the wcs second century project. the projects goal was to remodel the building to achieve the following goals: change the main entryway to become accessible to people with disabilities; provide a single accessible restroom on the main level (which had no restrooms;) create a community kitchen; and provide air conditioning to the main level to extend use of the building into the summer. project construction began in january 2016 with reimbursements from the grants to be received across several fiscal years. a committee of six club and community members guiding this project met weekly throughout the year for a total of 600 volunteer hours.
