Mission

To follow Jesus as a worshipping, missional community of faith.

About

On January 23rd, 2022, we were officially made pro-cathedral of our diocese, and today we’re seeking to live out our mission as a worshipping, missional, community of faith. Redeemer began meeting in the evenings at another church’s building in downtown Greensboro. On the night of our first service, there were about 72 people present, worshipping the Lord together in this shared space. As we continued to grow in numbers, we had to move locations, and we moved around Greensboro total of 3 times from 2008-2013, when we settled at Western Guilford High School for several years. Our founding rector, Alan (who has since been consecrated as the bishop of our diocese!), shared with the leadership team that he felt like the Lord had impressed upon him a vision for Redeemer’s life together as a church which would flourish and bless the community: the Parish, Park, Farm, and Abbey vision, which came to be called Project New Garden. Although Project New Garden seemed almost unattainable at the time, the team felt like it must have been the Holy Spirit prompting such a unique vision for them to begin praying into and working toward. So even as Redeemer moved through each of its meeting locations, the idea for Project New Garden remained present—we just trusted that the Lord had his timing and waited on him throughout the process. In spring of 2016, Alan received a phone call about a piece of property where New Garden Nursery was located at the time. When he walked through the spaces which are now our sanctuary and Greenhouse, he felt a wave of peace and encouragement hit him and heard the Lord say, “You will be here soon.” After some discussions with the property owner and our vestry, we had a meeting on the property for all of our parishioners to see and hear more about the vision for the space—our members voted unanimously to move forward with purchasing it. About a year later, on July 16th, 2017, we had our first worship service at New Garden Park, the space where our Farm and Abbey would start to develop and where our Parish would continue to grow.
