DIRECT dedicates its efforts to advocating for the equality, empowerment, and emancipation of people with disabilities. During this reporting period, the center 1) connected with almost 2,000 individuals with disabilities; 2) transitioned five individuals out of nursing facilities to their own homes; and3) expanded its employment services by acquiring Linkages, a nonprofit organization focused on employment for people with disabilities. Linkages now operates as a program of Direct providing various employment-related services including advocacy and training to employers. Serving southern Arizona (Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, and Santa Cruz counties), DIRECT offers the following programs and services: Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training (including pre-employment), Advocacy (including employment), Mental Health Counseling, Peer Support/Mentoring, Home Modifications, and Transitioning (out of institutions; and from school to adult life that may include work or higher education). All programs and services are free and confidential, and prioritize informed choice, consumer control / self-determination, dignity of risk, and community integration.
