About this organization
Mission
The Arizona Trail Association's mission is to protect, maintain, enhance, promote and sustain the Arizona Trail as a unique encounter with the land.
About
Since 1994, Arizona Trail Association ATA has trained and coordinated tens of thousands of volunteers to help build and maintain the Arizona Trail. In 2018, 2,171 volunteers contributed 27,500 hours of service, valued at 650,000. Some accomplishments are four trail skills institute sessions that taught the art and science of trail work to 45 participants, three volunteer vacations brought together 40 volunteers for a total of 1,200 hours of service, and two steward conferences with 50 participants. ATA continued to work closely with the federal land management agencies to integrate long-term trail corridor protection strategies into their management plans. Major joint-agency accomplishments for 2018 include rehabilitation of two springs in the Mazatzal Mountains, construction of a northern terminus monument, and significant improvements in the Pusch Ridge and four peaks wilderness areas. ATA also met with private companies whose proposed activities may have adverse impacts to the Arizona trails. We educated the companies on minimizing the effects of their projects.
