About this organization
Mission
Jobs for Arizona's Graduates (JAG) is a 501(c)(3) and is an affiliate of Jobs for America's Graduates. JAG's mission is to help young people stay in school and to acquire the academic, personal, leadership and vocational skills they will need to be successful upon graduation. JAG partners with schools, the businesses and the public sector to increase the number of high school students graduating on-time, with a post-high school plan. JAG gives at-risk youth an advantage as they complete high school and prepare to enter the workforce. JAG blends project-based learning, trauma-informed care practices, and employer engagement opportunities to help young people address and cope with challenges they face, learn core life and work readiness skills and build a network for future success.
About
JAGs Career and College Readiness served 750 middle school and high school youth and 200 recent graduates, providing an average of 138 hours of service per participant. Programming is delivered as a regularly scheduled, for-credit elective class, which creates a reliable support system for JAG students. With a focus on team building and student- led activity-based learning, the class provides an alternative to the typical classroom experience, while still delivering JAGs competency-based work readiness curriculum. In the classroom, JAG students receive instruction on core work readiness competencies designed to ensure successful transition to employment and/or post-secondary education upon graduation from high school. JAGs core curriculum includes: Career development, Job Attainment, Job survival, Leadership and Self-development, and Personal skills. Outside of the classroom, all JAG students are members of a student-led organization that functions within the classroom, serving as a learning lab for the JAG curriculum. This student-led organization often becomes the heart of the program, allowing the students to build relationships with each other and members of their school and community as they work together to plan career exploration, social and community service events.
