ON AVERAGE 250 RESIDENTS LIVE AT HOUSE OF REFUGE ON ANY GIVEN DAY. THE AVERAGE RESIDENT IS A 34 YEAR OLD SINGLE MOTHER WITH 2-3 CHILDREN. 85% OF THE FAMILIES SERVED WERE SINGLE FEMALES, HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD. 50% HAVE HISTORIES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. 61% OF THE FAMILIES CAME FROM WHAT IS DESCRIBED AS THE "HIDDEN HOMELESS" CIRCUMSTANCES (TEMPORARILY LIVING WITH FAMILY AND/OR FRIENDS), 22% SPENT THE NIGHT BEFORE ENTERING THE HOUSE OF REFUGE PROGRAM IN AN EMERGENCY SHELTER, 10% WERE FROMMOTELS/HOTELS, 7% OTHER LOCATIONS. HOUSING - HOUSE OF REFUGE MANAGES 88 HOMES. 7 ARE SERVICE HOMES - DONATION CENTER (2), EMPLOYMENTS EDUCATION CENTER AND SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT (2), AFTER-SCHOOL) COMMUNITY CENTER AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT (2), AFTER HOUR'S STAFF (1). ALL HOMES IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING NEW SEWERS REPLACED/REHABBED OR ARE FULL WITH AN APPROXIMATE 90-DAY WAITING LIST IN PLACE. SOCIAL SERVICES - ALL 175 ADULT RESIDENT WILL HAVE A BACHELOR PREPARED CASE MANAGER THEY WILL MEET WITH A MINIMUM OF ONCE PER MONTH. THEY WILL DESIGN INDIVIDUAL CASE PLANS THAT IDENTIFY BARRIERS TO EXITING HOMELESSNESS AND WORK WITH CASE MANAGEMENT TO OVERCOME THOSE BARRIERS. 85% LEFT THE PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY.
