OUR WORK We save the lives of our homeless, abandoned, and often abused, animals. We receive, shelter and care for nearly 10,000 lost and unwanted companion animals each year. OUR MISSION Compassionately serving pets and the people who love them. OUR VISION A community in which all pets are cared for and loved. GEOGRAPHIC AREA We primarily serve Tucson and Pima County, Arizona, with reach throughout all of Southern Arizona.

SHELTER OPERATIONS: ADMISSIONS AND ADOPTIONS IN FISCAL YEAR 2019, THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA ACCEPTED 5,198 STRAY, TRANSFERRED AND OWNER RELEASED PETS. OUR LOST AND FOUND PROGRAM HELPED REUNITE 256 PETS TO THEIR OWNERS AND 3,641 FOUND HOMES THROUGH OUR MAIN ADOPTIONS, SPECIAL EVENTS AND TWO RETAIL ADOPTION CENTERS. OUR FOSTER CARE PROGRAM PLACED 1,727 PETS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND OUR TRANSPORT MODEL BROUGHT IN 682 AT RISK ANIMALS FROM A VARIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA PARTNERS. OUR LIVE RELEASE RATE (ADOPTABLE ANIMALS WHO FOUND HOMES) WAS 93%. IN ADDITION, 9,197 VACCINATIONS, 5,657 MEDICAL TESTS AND 14,839 TREATMENTS WERE PERFORMED ON SHELTER PETS. THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA CONTINUES TO BE A STRONG PRESENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY, BY INCORPORATING OUR MISSION AND VISION IN OUR EVERYDAY WORK. OFFSITE THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA HAS HAD CONTINUED GREAT SUCCESS WITH ITS OFFSITE ADOPTION MODEL OF TWO RETAIL AND ADOPTION CENTERS AT TWO LOCAL MALLS, AND MULTIPLE COMMUNITY SPECIAL EVENTS. HSSA OPENED THE FIRST RETAIL AND ADOPTION CENTER, PAWSH, IN 2009 AT A CENTRAL TUCSON MALL. IN JULY 2010 A SECOND RETAIL AND ADOPTION CENTER OPENED UP IN AN UPSCALE MALL ON THE CENTRAL NORTH SIDE. THE HSSA RETAIL STORES CARRY A VARIETY OF MERCHANDISE FOR THE NEW ADOPTER AND CASUAL SHOPPER. IN FISCAL YEAR 2019, 1,120 CATS, DOGS AND OTHER PETS (RABBITS, GUINEA PIGS, ETC.) WERE ADOPTED INTO NEW HOMES FROM THE OFFSITE LOCATIONS, 31% OF THE TOTAL ORGANIZATION'S ADOPTIONS. ADDITIONALLY, HSSA OPERATES A THRIFT STORE LOCATION, BRINGING A UNIQUE BLEND OF CHIC AND TRADITIONAL ITEMS, ADDING A REVENUE STREAM TO SUPPORT OUR OVERALL OPERATIONS. LOCATED IN EAST TUCSON, THE STORE OPENED IN THE FALL OF 2010. EFFECTIVE JUNE 1, 2019, HSSA CLOSED ITS SECOND OFFSITE LOCATION DUE TO DECLINING RETAIL SALES AND PROXIMITY OF THE STORE TO ITS NEWLY COMPLETED MAIN FACILITY.
