HOPEWORKS IS A 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION. FOUNDED IN 1985 BY A GROUP OF CONCERNED LEADERS, HOPEWORKS HAS GROWN TO BECOME THE LARGEST PROVIDER OF SERVICES FOR PEOPLE EXPERIENCING (OR AT RISK OF) HOMELESSNESS IN ALBUQUERQUE. EVERY YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 15,000 INDIVIDUALS SEEK SERVICES FROM HOPEWORKS. MISSION HOPEWORKS' MISSION IS TO ASSIST PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS OR NEAR-HOMELESSNESS BY PROVIDING RESOURCES, OPPORTUNITIES, AND HOPE. HOPEWORKS AIMS TO END HOMELESSNESS, ONE PERSON, AND ONE FAMILY AT A TIME. NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY. HOPEWORKS TREATS EVERYONE WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THEY OFFER THEM HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW. BUT, HOPEWORKS IS MORE THAN A HOMELESS SHELTER. THE DAY SHELTER IS NOT ONLY WHERE MEALS ARE SERVED, BUT ALSO HAS: "A MAIL ROOM. "A PLACE TO SHOWER. "SHORT AND LONG-TERM STORAGE. "A CLOTHING ROOM. HOPEWORKS ALSO OFFERS: "BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES. "ASSISTANCE IN EMPLOYMENT. "HELP IN RAPIDLY PLACING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THEIR OWN HOMES. DURING THE LAST FISCAL YEAR: "8,110 INDIVIDUALS CAME TO HOPEWORKS FOR SHELTER, MEALS, CLOTHING, HYGIENE, MAIL, AND MORE - AN INCREASE OF 31% AS COMPARED TO THE YEAR PRIOR. "OVER 142,000 MEALS WERE FRESHLY PREPARED AND SERVED AT OUR SHELTER. "ABOUT 300 INDIVIDUALS WERE PERMANENTLY HOUSED. "OVER 2,400 CLIENTS ACCESSED HOPEWORKS' EMPLOYMENT AND JOB DEVELOPMENT SERVICES. AS A RESULT, OVER 250 PEOPLE WERE PLACED INTO PERMANENT JOBS. "APPROXIMATELY 350 CLIENTS RECEIVED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES, INCLUDING THERAPY AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT. "OVER 1,500 PANHANDLERS WERE PUT TO WORK. "HOPEWORKS' OUTREACH TEAM ENGAGED WITH OVER 1,200 INDIVIDUALS LIVING ON THE STREETS, IN TUNNELS, AND ALONG ALLEYWAYS IN AN EFFORT TO GAIN THEIR TRUST AND GET THEM INTO SERVICES. "ABOUT 15 FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS WERE PLACED INTO PERMANENT HOUSING WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THEIR HOMELESSNESS EPISODE. HOPEWORKS' COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE ARRAY IS ABLE TO HELP THOSE MOST AT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS, INCLUDING THOSE WITH SEVERE AND PERSISTENT MENTAL ILLNESSES, SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROBLEMS, MILITARY VETERANS, WOMEN AND FAMILIES FLEEING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND THE MEDICALLY FRAGILE.
