LA ROMITA SCHOOL OF ART (LRSA) OFFERS INTENSIVE STUDY PROGRAMS IN ARTS AND WRITING TO CLASSES OF UP TO 20 STUDENTS PER SESSION. IN 2018 THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS BID FAREWELL TO EDWARD MADDOX, WHO SERVED FOR SEVERAL YEARS AS VICE PRESIDENT. WE WELCOMED ALEX PADGETT ONTO THE BOARD IN SEPTEMBER. WE ARE EXCITED TO BRING HIS FINANCIAL EXPERIENCE INTO OUR GROUP AND FEEL THAT HIS ADDITION WILL ALLOW THE ORGANIZATION TO DISTRIBUTE ITS ENERGY MORE EFFICIENTLY. THE SCHOOL'S SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE FOUND SEVERAL DESERVING RECIPIENTS AND SO ASSISTED ARTISTS AND POETS TO ATTEND WORKSHOPS. NOTABLY, BRANDY NOODY - AN ART TEACHER FROM NEW YORK - RECEIVED AN AWARD FROM THE DEE LEVIN SCHOLARSHIP FUND, ENABLING HER TO ATTEND, LEARN NEW TECHNIQUES, AND BRING THEM BACK TO HER CLASSROOM AND PEERS.LA ROMITA ALSO INVESTED ITS ENERGY HEAVILY IN REVISING ITS OUTREACH PROGRAM FOR FINDING NEW INSTRUCTORS AND SUCCESSFULLY MODIFIED IT'S OPERATING SCHEDULE TO ENCOURAGE EARLY REGISTRATION, RESULTING IN A FRESH LINEUP FOR 2019 AND SOLVING SOME CASH-FLOW CHALLENGES THAT HAVE PLAGUED IT IN THE PAST.FINALLY, WE ENDED THE YEAR WITH A GENEROUS $15,000 DONATION FROM BOARD PRESIDENT HAROLD BENSON.2018 WAS NOT AN EASY YEAR, FINANCIALLY, BUT THE ENERGY AND HOPE REMAINS HIGH WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION, BRINGING IN NEW BLOOD, TRYING NEW IDEAS, AND LOOKING BEYOND THE HORIZONS TO MEET OUR MISSION.
