The safe drug free communities program is responsible for funding anti-drug coalitions for substance abuse prevention activities along with building community support for drug-free communities. This program also brings together several sectors of the community, including law enforcement, youth-serving agencies, and local governments to work together on substance abuse prevention using environmental strategies and other evidence based prevention strategies. As a partner of SAMHSA through the drug free communities award, the Eagle River Youth Coalition has been able to leverage collaborations with dozens of community leaders from various sectors to strengthen our impact. Together, we have implemented programs and strategies, and have pursued policy change, to increase healthy behaviors and decrease risky behaviors in youth, specifically substance abuse prevention.
