Mission

To permanently preserve open space for agriculture, wildlife habitat, scenic enjoyment, and recreation in the Roaring Fork and Middle Colorado River valleys.

About

SINCE 1967, DONOR SUPPORT HAS ENABLED ASPEN VALLEY LAND TRUST TO CONSERVE OVER 40,000 ACRES OF IMPORTANT WILDLIFE HABITAT, PUBLIC PARKS AND TRAILS, LONG-TIME FAMILY FARMS AND RANCHLANDS, AND SCENIC OPEN LANDS THAT DEFINE WESTERN COLORADO. IN 2018, AVLT CONSERVED FOUR ADDITIONAL PROPERTIES, INCLUDING A NEW PUBLIC PARK IN THE TOWN OF MARBLE; A PUBLIC RECREATIONAL AMENITY LOCATED AT THE GATEWAY TO CARBONDALE; PART OF A WILDLIFE MIGRATION CORRIDOR NEAR THE CITY OF ASPEN; AND A HIGH-COUNTRY RANCH THAT PROVIDES WETLANDS, PONDS AND IMPORTANT WILDLIFE HABITAT SURROUNDED BY NATIONAL FOREST. IN ADDITION, AVLT EXPANDED ITS PROGRAMING ON THE CHAPIN WRIGHT MARBLE BASECAMP, PROVIDING OUTDOOR EDUCATIONAL ACCESS TO THREE NEW LOCAL SCHOOLS AND YOUTH GROUPS, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS. AVLT ALSO WORKED WITH THE TOWN OF SILT TO IMPROVE AND ADD USER TRAILS TO THE SILT RIVER PRESERVE, A PUBLIC NATURE PARK ALONG THE COLORADO RIVER, AND HAS SUPPORTED OTHER TOWNS AND MUNICIPALITIES IN PURSUING ITS TOP CONSERVATION PRIORITIES. FINALLY, AS REQUIRED BY OUR MISSION, WE MONITORED AND DEFENDED EACH OF OUR CONSERVATION EASEMENTS AND FEE OWNED PROPERTIES, AND WORKED WITH LANDOWNERS ON TARGETED RESTORATION PROJECTS TO KEEP PARKS AND OPEN SPACES VITAL AND HEALTHY.
