The purpose of the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission is to work with all three communities on Aquidneck Island and Naval Station Newport as well as citizens, businesses and other stakeholders to preserve and improve Aquidneck Island's environment, economy and quality of life. During FY 2016, AIPC implemented this program through service accomplishments such as designing safer bikeways and better bike signage; developing projects to increase renewable energy production; and providing information to reduce water pollution, improve open space management, increase coastal resilience and shoreline preservation, diversify and improve transportation systems, and improve land use on Aquidneck Island.
