TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC LITERACY WITHIN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND TO PROVIDE QUALITY ECONOMIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS, TEACHERS AND STUDENTS IN MISSISSIPPI FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE TWELVE BY SYSTEMATICALLY PROMOTING AND UNDERSTANDING THE FREE MARKET ECONOMIC SYSTEM OF THE UNITED STATES IN A NONPARTISAN MANNER.

THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WAS PROVIDED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION TO ENABLE TEACHERS TO LEARN HOW TO EFFECTIVELY TEACH MICROECONOMICS AND MACROECONOMICS. APPROXIMATELY 500 TEACHERS COMPLETED THE PROGRAM AND ARE PROVING THAT THE PROGRAM IS A TREMENDOUS INVESTMENT WITH A SIGNIFICANT RETURN TO THE HUMAN CAPITAL OF OUR STATE. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE ONE SEMESTER OF ECONOMICS IN ORDER TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL. TEACHERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM EARNED A CERTIFICATE FROM THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION. ON AVERAGE, TEACHERS RAISED THEIR SCORE ON A TEST OF ECONOMIC LITERACY BY APPROXIMATELY 40% AFTER THE TRAINING. IN ADDITION, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INCREASED THEIR SCORES BY APPROXIMATELY 66% WHEN THEIR TEACHERS USED THE FINANCIAL FITNESS FOR LIFE PROGRAM AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE STOCK MARKET GAME SCORED APPROXIMATELY 8% HIGHER ON A TEST OF ECONOMIC LITERACY. OVER 10,000 TEACHERS HAVE BEEN TRAINED AND HAVE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 1,000,000 STUDENTS OVER THE LIFE OF THE ORGANIZATION.
