RESEARCH STUDIES - THE CONNECTION LABIN 2018, THE CONNECTION LAB SOUGHT TO UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE CONNECT WITH THEMSELVES AND WHAT THE IMPLICATIONS OF SELF-CONNECTION ARE. THIS WAS PERFORMED THROUGH A SERIES OF QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH UTILIZING BOTH DESCRIPTIVE AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES. DATA WAS COLLECTED FROM 834 PARTICIPANTS IN 2018.UNDERSTANDING THE EXPERIENCE OF SELF-CONNECTION AND DISCONNECTION: 20 INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED WITH PEOPLE WHO IDENTIFIED AS SELF-CONNECTED AND ANALYZED THEIR RESPONSES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING SELF-CONNECTED IS. THIS STUDY EXAMINED WHAT BARRIERS TO BEING SELF-CONNECTED EMERGED AND WHAT THE RESULT OF SELF-DISCONNECTION IS.MEASURING SELF-CONNECTION: IN AN ATTEMPT TO MEASURE HOW SELF-CONNECTED PEOPLE ARE, THE STUDIES GENERATED QUESTIONS DESIGNED TO TAP MULTIPLE ASPECTS OF SELF-CONNECTION THAT EMERGED IN THE INTERVIEWS. FURTHERMORE, 647 PEOPLE WERE SURVEYED TO ANALYZE WHAT QUESTIONS MOST STRONGLY MEASURED EACH COMPONENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE STUDIES BEGAN TO EXAMINE THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SELF-CONNECTION AND SEVERAL ASPECTS OF HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.THE EFFECTS OF SELF-CONNECTION: THROUGH A SERIES OF CROSS-SECTIONAL, EXPERIMENTAL, AND LONGITUDINAL STUDIES, THE STUDIES EXAMINED THE EFFECTS OF SELF-CONNECTION ON PEOPLE'S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING. THIS INCLUDED THE ROLE OF SELF-CONNECTION IN EXPLAINING HOW THINGS SUCH AS MINDFULNESS AND POSITIVE AFFECT LEAD TO GREATER WELL-BEING AND HOW SELF-CONNECTION ON ITS OWN CAN PREDICT GREATER MEANING IN LIFE, MENTAL HEALTH, LIFE SATISFACTION, AND FLOURISHING. THIS INCLUDED A PRE-TEST FOR 100 PARTICIPANTS, FOLLOWED BY DAILY, WEEKLY, AND MONTHLY FOLLOW-UP. A POST-TEST WAS COMPLETED BY 72 PARTICIPANTS. ADDITIONALLY, A JOURNALING STUDY WAS CONDUCTED WITH 67 PARTICIPANTS. THIS INCLUDED A PRE-TEST AND DAILY JOURNALING, FOLLOWED BY A POST-TEST. THE POST-TEST WAS COMPLETED BY 53 OF THE ORIGINAL PARTICIPANTS.
