BALLET SUN VALLEY BRINGS THE BEAUTY OF INTERNATIONAL BALLET TO THE OPEN-AIR SUN VALLEY PAVILION ALONG WITH AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG DANCE STUDENTS TO LEARN FROM THESE WORLD-CLASS DANCERS IN A TWO-DAY DANCE EDUCATION PROGRAM. THE 2019 SUMMER FESTIVAL BROUGHT BACK THE SAN FRANCISCO BALLET TO SUN VALLEY, PROMOTING THE LOVE OF ARTS, DRAMA, AND DANCE TO THE COMMUNITY. THE COMPANY WAS PRESENTED BY SAN FRANCISCO BALLET'S ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, HELGI TOMASSON, AND HOSTED THIRTY-EIGHT DANCERS AND TWO UNIQUE PERFORMANCES. THE AUDIENCE'S RESPONSE TO BALLET IN THE PAVILION WAS EXPRESSED THROUGH EXUBERANT APPLAUSE FROM 3,500 ATTENDEES OVER THE TWO PERFORMANCES. IN ADDITION, BALLET SUN VALLEY USED THE FESTIVAL RESOURCES TO EXPAND THEIR EDUCATION PROGRAM FROM TWO TO THREE DAYS IN 2019. THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT YOUNG DANCERS BY OFFERING INSPIRING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. WHILE THE PROFESSIONAL DANCERS WERE NOT PERFORMING OR REHEARSING, THEY TAUGHT A VARIETY OF CLASSES TO YOUNG DANCERS CHOSEN VIA AN APPLICATION PROCESS. THIS SUMMER INTENSIVE PROGRAM BROUGHT IN OVER 120 STUDENTS FROM 17 STATES TO TAKE PART IN THE PROGRAM. CLASS OFFERINGS INCLUDED VARIOUS AGES AND EXPERIENCE LEVELS OF BALLET, ALONG WITH CONDITIONING, CONTEMPORARY, VARIATIONS, AND CHOREOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS. IN 2019 BALLET SUN VALLEY ALSO EXPANDED THE ADAPTIVE DANCE PROGRAM BY PARTNERING WITH THE BOSTON BALLET SCHOOL ADAPTIVE DANCE PROGRAM, WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST RESPECTED PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY USING DANCE THERAPY FOR DISABLED YOUTH. AS A RESULT OF THIS PARTNERSHIP, ADDITIONS TO THE BALLET SUN VALLEY PROGRAM IN 2019, ADDITIONS ALSO INCLUDED A TWO-DAY TEACHER TRAINING FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN LEARNING THE SKILLS NEEDED TO OFFER DANCE AS THERAPY CLASSES IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. COMMUNITY OUTREACH ALSO GREW AS BALLET SUN VALLEY PARTNERED WITH THE COMMUNITY LIBRARY TO HOST TWO PROGRAMS FOR THE PUBLIC. HELGI TOMASSON, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF SAN FRANCISCO BALLET, PARTICIPATED IN A Q&A WHERE HE DISCUSSED HIS 66-YEAR DANCE CAREER AND THE HISTORY OF BALLET IN THE UNITED STATES. FOR YOUNGER AUDIENCES, SASHA DE SOLA, PRINCIPAL DANCER WITH SAN FRANCISCO BALLET, READ FROM HER BILINGUAL CHILDREN'S BOOK, DELIGHTING OVER 50 CHILDREN WHO WERE IN ATTENDANCE. AT ANY AGE, THE STUDY OF BALLET CULTIVATES CREATIVITY, DISCIPLINE, AND A LOVE OF MOVEMENT.
