Mission

We are a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting open collaboration in public interest technology through fiscal sponsorship and other programs supporting sustainable open source. We envision a future where communities build technology infrastructure that reflect their values. We bring together innovative projects committed to the public good and provide them with financial and administrative and strategic support. We support communities across domains, enabling projects to learn from each other to develop future-facing solutions that empower people. We are looking for projects that want to participate in our community, who value collaboration over competition, and who are aligned with our mission.

About

Sponsored Projects Program: After sponsoring our first project in 2017/2018 we saw a need for more in-depth support for emerging project leaders and communities. We expanded this program to work with new project leaders and established projects in public interest technology, open data, and open research. The Sponsored Projects Program added the following projects: PREreview (open access and education), OpenReview (open source software, open access review processes for scientific meetings), and Measurement Lab (open civic data supporting internet access). We worked with each project to develop their project strategy to meet goals.
