OUR CONFLICT INTERVENTION WORK IN WASHINGTON STATE CONCLUDED IN 2018, WHICH INVOLVED DIVERSE RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES, CITIZENS, GOVERNMENT, ELECTED LEADERS, AND ENGAGED INTEREST GROUPS. IN 2018, THEY WORKED TOGETHER TO EXPLORE THE SCIENCE BEHIND WOLF CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT AND LAY THE GROUNDWORK FOR MORE EXPLICIT, INTEGRATED AND COMPLEMENTARY COORDINATION AMONG THE RELEVANT DECISION-MAKING BODIES FOR A LONG-TERM WOLF CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT PLAN POST-RECOVERY. THEY ALSO LAY THE GROUNDWORK FOR A BROADER SOCIETAL ENGAGEMENT AROUND THIS PLAN SO THAT ADVICE GIVEN AND DECISIONS MADE WOULD BE INCLUSIVE OF BROADER SOCIETAL INPUT. FURTHER, THEY WORKED EFFECTIVELY TOGETHER TO ANALYZE AND ADDRESS CURRENT AND ANTICIPATED ISSUES WITH RELEVANT POLICIES AND PROGRAMS. CPEACE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT IMPROVEMENT IN COMMUNITY AND INSTITUTIONAL FUNCTIONING, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND CAPACITY. THIS LED TO POSITIVE PROGRESS WITHIN GOVERNMENT AND AMONG STAKEHOLDER COMMUNITIES, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY BUILDING THESE INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS' CAPACITY TO CONTINUE TO ASSESS AND ADDRESS COMPLEX CONFLICTS. CPEACE ALSO LED AN ADVANCED CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR GOVERNMENT PROFESSIONALS WORKING ON A VARIETY OF SOCIAL CONFLICTS OVER FISH, WILDLIFE AND HABITAT. CPEACE ALSO OFFERED CAPACITY-BUILDING AND EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS AT MULTIPLE CONFERENCES THROUGHOUT 2018, INCLUDING THE PATHWAYS EUROPE CONFERENCE IN GERMANY, A EURAC SYMPOSIUM IN ITALY, THE NORTH AMERICAN WILDLIFE AND NATURAL RESOURCES CONFERENCE IN VIRGINIA, AND A GIRAFFE CONSERVATION SYMPOSIUM AT THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE FOR CONSERVATION BIOLOGY. PARTICIPANTS REPRESENTED MANY COUNTRIES IN EUROPE, INCLUDING ENGLAND, GERMANY, SWEDEN, FRANCE, ITALY, POLAND, UKRAINE, AND AT LEAST A DOZEN U.S. STATES. IN 2018, CPEACE DESIGNED AND UNDERTOOK A UNIQUE AND INTENSIVE ASSESSMENT PROCESS TO EVALUATE AND SELECT AN APPRENTICE TO BE MENTORED IN CONSERVATION CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION OVER AN 18 MONTH PERIOD OF TIME. OUR GOAL IN DESIGNING THIS ROBUST PROCESS TO ASSESS WHO WOULD BECOME A SUCCESSFUL CCT PRACTITIONER IS PART OF OUR EFFORTS TO DELIVER AND MAINTAIN A HIGH STANDARD OF PRACTICE IN THIS WORK. THE CHOSEN CANDIDATE WILL BEGIN THEIR APPRENTICE IN 2019.
