About

This year the organization grew tremendously. One Life started our TRAUMA PROGRAM IN THE REDWOOD CITY AND SAN MATEO SCHOOLS WHERE WE ARE ABLE TO SERVE 180 IMMIGRANT FAMILIES WHO RECENTLY CAME OVER THE BORDER. WE ADDED 6 BELMONT/REDWOOD SHORES AS A CONTRACTED SCHOOLs FOR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. WE ALSO DISTRIBUTED food to over 300 immigrant families weekly and created a handbook of resources for immigrant families THROUGH OUR DIGNITY HEALTH GRANT. WE MOVED INTO TWO OFFICES DONATED BY THE PENINSULA HEALTH CARE DISTRICT IN BURLINGAME. WE INCREASED OUR WORK WITH ABLEWORKS AND BEGAN WORKING WITH THE ROSALIE RENDU CENTER PROVIDING THERAPY FOR ESL STUDENTS. WE PROVIDE OVER 20,000 LOW FEE SESSIONS YEARLY WITH OUR 65 THERAPISTS. THERE ARE THREE ACTIVITIES:1, SCHOOL BASED SERVICES WHICH INCLUDE ALL OUR SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS2, COMMUNITY BASED SERVICES WHICH INCLUDE MUSIC AND MEMORY, POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE AND ABLEWORKS.3, COUNSELING SERVICES WHICH INCLUDE ALL OF OUR LOW FEE COUNSELING PROGRAM WE WILL ACCEPT ANY FEE A CLIENT CAN PAY. WE CALL CLIENTS BACK WITHIN 24 HOURS AND GET THEM A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WITHIN 24 HOURS. MANY FAMILIES WORK TWO JOBS AND ARE UNDER-INSURED. THEY SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD THE COPAYS TO GET ADEQUATE MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT. WE SERVE MEDI-CAL CLIENTS IN OUR CLINIC AS WELL. WE HAVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK AND PENINSULA FOOD RUNNERS AND HAVE FOOD AVAILABLE FOR OUR LOW FEE CLIENTS AS WELL. WE WANT TO SERVE THE WHOLE PERSON. WE PROVIDE FREE SUPPORT GROUPS, SUCH AS FIRST RESPONDERS SUPPORT, SINGLE MOM SUPPORT. OUR CLINIC IS OPEN 9-9 EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. WE HAVE 40 THERAPISTS WITH MANY SPECIALITIES AND CAN TREAT ALMOST ALL MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. WE ARE CONNECTED WITH COMMUNITY RESOURCES, PSYCHIATRISTS, AND MEDICAL DOCTORS.WE CURRENTLY OPERATE IN 14 SCHOOLS ON THE SAN FRANCISCO PENINSULA. WE USE BOTH TRADITIONAL COUNSELING SERVICES WHERE WE PULL OUT STUDENTS FOR COUNSELING AND NON-TRADITIONAL COUNSELING WHERE WE WORK IN TANDEM WITH THE TEACHERS TO PROVIDE RESILIENCY BUILDING IN THE CLASSROOM. WE HAVE PROVIDED OVER 1000 SERVICE HOURS IN OUR SCHOOLS THIS YEAR AND IT IS MAKING A PROFOUND IMPACT FOR THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ALIKE. WITH A 35 PERCENT INCREASE IN DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY IN OUR YOUTH, THESE SERVICES ARE ESSENTIAL. WE ARE ABLE TO BRIDGE CARE OVER THE SUMMER TO MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO BREAKS IN SERVICE. OUR THERAPISTS STAY FOR MULTIPLE YEARS WHICH ALLOWS FOR CONTINUITY WITH THE STUDENTS.OUR MUSIC AND MEMORY PROGRAM WORKS WITH YOUTH AND SENIORS TO CREATE A INTERGENERATION BOND. THE TEENS CREATE CUSTOMIZED IPODS FOR SENIORS WITH DEMENTIA AND ENJOY THE MUSIC WITH THEM ON AN ONGOING BASIS. WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR VOLUNTEER POOL AND OUR SERVICE LOCATIONS TO THE ELMS, HOPKINS MANOR, AND THE ATHERTON REGENCY. WE WORK WITH THE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM IN SAN MATEO COUNTY TO TARGET SKILLED NURSING FACILITIES WHERE THE MUSIC WOULD GREATLY IMPACT THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE SENIORS. WE HAVE OVER 150 VOLUNTEERS WHO HELP MAKE THIS PROGRAM POSSIBLE. WE PARTNER WITH NATIONAL CHARITY LEAGUE AND YOUNG MEN'S SERVICE LEAGUE WHO PROVIDE HOURS OF DEDICATED SERVICES FOR THE SENIORS. WE ALSO DO IN HOME VISITS FOR ANYONE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO WOULD LIKE A CUSTOMIZED IPOD. WE HAVE A GROUP OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS WHO WE TRAIN ABOUT DEMENTIA AND THEY GO OVER TO HOPKINS MANOR TO PROVIDE THE IPODS FOR THEM.
