About
IWFF and The Roxy Theater made significant advances in its programs and impact. Attendance at the theater reached a record high of 72,000 with over 500 films, programs and events. The theater upgraded some of its projectors to better serve the Missoula community and the numerous organizations that present programming at the Roxy. We also finished exterior renovations to our historic theater, including a new ticket booth and a period-accurate Art Deco neon marquee.The International Wildlife Film Festival, celebrated its 41st year in 2018, brought in large audiences and a windfall of promotional attention for the organization. Highlights of the event included childrens matinee screenings hosted on the campus of the University of Montana for over 3,000 students from St. Ignatius to Seeley Lake and beyond, the festive WildWalk Parade (over 2500 in attendance), and special screenings of dozens of new international films including The Last Animals, Jane and the acclaimed programming from PBS Nature. The festival welcomed dozens of delegates and special guests from around the world including scientists, conservationists and filmmakers and over 7,000 attendees to over 100 film screenings. IWFF also presented IWFF Labs, an immersive science filmmaking workshop.The Montana Film Festival presented its third year, with 35 films, and 34 visiting filmmakers. The event attracted an audience of nearly 2000.Other areas of focus for the organization include the expansion of year-round volunteers. 400 volunteers completed orientation, trained and served this year, serving 2,302 hours.The Roxy Film Academy (RFA) presented summer programming to area children aged8-14. During the school year RFA conducted a residency at Willard Alternative High School and several partnerships with Missoula Public Schools with funding provided by the Any Given Child Initiative and Spark! Arts of Missoula. In all, the RFA reached over 600 children and young adults in our community.Another area of growth for IWFF is continued and newly developed partnerships with nonprofits, educational and community groups. Some of the over 190 groups we partnered with in FY17/18 include University of Montana, Humane Society of Western Montana, Arts Missoula, The Pride Foundation, Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Film Office, Missoula Clark Fork Coalition, Missoula Community Foundation, Missoula Cultural Council, Montana Museum of Arts & Culture. Additionally, The Roxy was supported by dozens of local, regional and national businesses and corporations and1200 individual donors.
