Mission

CRJC is committed to providing a safe environment for neighbors and parties to resolve conflict in our communities, to restore relationships, and to take responsibility to repair harms caused. We promote the principles of victim focused restorative justice in Caledonia and Southern Essex Counties, Vermont.

About

The offender reentry program accounts for approximately 55% of our program activity time and is funded by the Vermont Legislature through the Vermont Department of Corrections and by a sub-grant from the US Department of Justice through the VT DOC. The program is staffed by one full-time reentry coordinator who works with 20 volunteers to provide supportive community reintegration. Circles and support and accountability (COSA) are the primary service that is coordinated by this employee. Volunteers meet with the reentry client (core member) weekly for one year. The program has been evaluated by the University of Vermont and found to reduce recidivism by at least 27%. These efforts lessen the burden of correction and law enforcement staff by holding the core member accountable for their actions and fostering a more integrated community experience of reciprocity and involvement. FY 16, we worked with 37 people through this reentry program.
