The North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) allows dairy science students to apply theory and learning to a real-world dairy while working as part of a team. The challenge is a unique two-day competition among teams representing North American universities' dairy science programs. Also held in conjunction with the challenge is the Dairy Challenge Academy that offers students the educational aspects of the challenge without the competition. The academy exposes more students, specifically underclassmen and two-year program students, to careers in the dairy industry. NAIDC also offers four regional contests throughout the year. Approximately 560 students representing 60 universities participated in the year's national, regional, and academy events. New in 2019 is the addition of Dairy Challenge Vet. DC Vet, a separate program from the national and regional dairy challenge events, targets students enrolled in veterinary programs across North America.
