About this organization
Mission
HCFS operates at the intersection of urgent need and lasting change. We foster mental and physical wellness, stability and independence for individuals and families who are in crisis in Kendall County.
About
Food and Nutrition Program. Hill Country Family Services (HCFS) provides one full week's worth of supplemental food each calendar month to support each client household with the appropriate amount of groceries based on the number of adults and children in the home, their ages, and the time of year (school versus summer break, holiday vacation and spring break). All foods provided are in line with USDA standards for nutrition to ensure every person has access to the right amount of fruits, grains, vegetables, dairy, and protein items. HCFS also provides diapers and baby formula to families with small children. Additionally, HCFS provided one 'mobile food pantry' per calendar month for eleven months for clients to receive bulk, fresh produce. This infusion of fresh vegetables and fruits serves to increase the nutritional value of food that is available to these individuals and families. Families were also authorized multiple 'emergency' food distributions throughout the year on a case-by-case basis. In 2018, HCFS distributed 309,150 pounds of food (11% increase over 2017) and hosted 11 mobile food pantries, feeding 3187 individuals (unduplicated).
