About this organization
Mission
The mission of Mental Health America of Greater Houston is to drive community solutions to promote mental health for all. Our vision is a future of hope and understanding that promotes the health and well-being of all people.
About
Collaboration, education, and advocacy are central to all our program components. Program components include the Center for School Behavioral Health (CSBH), the Integrated Health Care Initiative (IHCI), the Veterans Behavioral Health Program (VBHP), Mental Health Literacy, and Public Policy. In 2018, we served over 9,500 clients through our various program components. For example, we trained 4,594 educators, youth-serving personnel and youth on children's mental health, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to identify mental health needs, respond appropriately, and link youth to services. We work with a network of 200 organizational partners, many of whom collaborate with us on common work agendas to create changes in systems and policies. Our IHCI works with over 50 partners including health care providers, insurers, and universities to advance integrated health care (coordinating mental health care with other health care), which is considered best practice. Our CSBH works with over 100 school districts and child-serving organizations to improve the prevention, early identification and intervention, and treatment of mental illness among schoolchildren. Our VBHP partners with Veterans Treatment Court Programs and other organizations to provide support such as peer mentoring for justice-involved veterans with mental health concerns. Our Mental Health Literacy programming provides training such as Mental Health First Aid, Mental Health 101, and Self-Care to staff and clients of numerous organizations. In 2018, our Public Policy work focused on preparation for the 86th Texas Legislative Session.
