THE REGIONAL FOOD BANK OF OKLAHOMA IS LEADING THE FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER IN 53 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL AND WESTERN OKLAHOMA AND ENVISIONS A STATE WHERE EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF CIRCUMSTANCE, HAS ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS FOOD. FOUNDED IN 1980, THE REGIONAL FOOD BANK IS THE STATE'S LARGEST HUNGER-RELIEF 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT THAT DISTRIBUTED ALMOST 50 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD TO OKLAHOMANS LIVING WITH HUNGER THROUGH A NETWORK OF NEARLY 1,300 COMMUNITY-BASED PARTNER AGENCIES AND SCHOOLS. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE SERVED BY THE REGIONAL FOOD BANK ARE CHRONICALLY HUNGRY CHILDREN, SENIORS LIVING ON FIXED INCOMES AND HARDWORKING FAMILIES STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET. THE REGIONAL FOOD BANK IS THE STATE'S LARGEST HUNGER RELIEF NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION AND IS A MEMBER OF FEEDING AMERICA, THE NATION'S NETWORK OF FOOD BANKS. IN OKLAHOMA, APPROXIMATELY ONE IN FOUR CHILDREN HAS INCONSISTENT ACCESS TO FOOD. IN FISCAL YEAR 2018, THE BACKPACK PROGRAM SERVED NEARLY 20,000 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN AT MORE THAN 470 SCHOOLS; THE SCHOOL PANTRY PROGRAM SERVED 6,494 STUDENTS AT 172 SCHOOLS, THE MOST NUMBER OF PANTRIES IN THE HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM; KIDS CAF AND SCHOOL'S OUT LOCATIONS SERVED A TOTAL OF 6,187 CHILDREN; AND THE SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM PROVIDED MEALS AND SNACKS TO 6,820 CHILDREN AT 131 SITES, THE LARGEST NUMBER OF SITES IN THE PROGRAM'S HISTORY. SENIORS ARE ANOTHER ESPECIALLY VULNERABLE GROUP WITH ONE IN TEN OKLAHOMA SENIORS BEING FOOD INSECURE. IN FY18, THE MOBILE MARKET PROGRAM SERVED AN AVERAGE OF NEARLY 1,100 SENIORS A MONTH AND THE COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM SERVED MORE THAN 3,000 FOOD INSECURE SENIORS A MONTH.
