GGRF is the only non-profit organization in Ethiopia dedicated to using the national sport of running as an innovative approach to creating safe spaces, ending child marriage and expanding access to secondary school for vulnerable girls. GGRF worked with 275 girls and women, impacting over 1,100 community members in 2019. GGRF programs focus on four key investment strategies for girls and their mothers: education, running, life skills, and savings and entrepreneurship. Located in Southern Ethiopia, Soddo is a town rich in culture and identity. Despite a growing economy, families in Soddo continue to struggle with limited economic opportunity and access to family planning. Since 2013, GGRF has worked with the only all-girls school in Soddo, the Abba Pascal Girl's School, to provide girls with the tools they need to complete their education and build a future of their choosing. GGRF worked with 115 girls and women, impacting over 460 community members in 2019. Grants of $21,772 were made to the Soddo project in 2019. An astonishing 16 Olympic medals in 20 years have been won by runners from Bekoji, a small farming village in the highlands of Ethiopia. Here, running offers a means of building a better future and the honor of contributing to the Ethiopian national identity. GGRF has worked in Bekoji since 2014 and is the first and only non-profit organization investing in female athletes and coaches in this historic town. GGRF worked with 160 girls and women, impacting over 640 community members in Bekoji in 2019. Grants of $42,776 were made to the Bekoji project in 2019.
