THE MISSION OF SPSFBC IS TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS AND STUDENT SUPPORT TO SINGLE PARENT FAMILIES IN BENTON COUNTY IN ORDER TO ENABLE SINGLE PARENTS TO ATTAIN SELF-SUFFICIENCY THROUGH POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AND BRING THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN OUT OF POVERTY.

SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PROVIDED TO SINGLE PARENTS TO ASSIST WITH DAY-TO-DAY EXPENSES THE STUDENT EXPERIENCES. THE FUNDS CAN BE USED FOR SCHOOL EXPENSES OR PERSONAL COSTS SUCH AS RENT, UTILITIES, CHILD CARE, ETC. THE FUNDS ARE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE SERVICE PROVIDER VERSUS THE STUDENT.ADDITIONALLY, OTHER SERVICES THE RECIPIENT RECEIVES IS GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT FOR CHALLENGES OCCURING IN THEIR LIFE AS A STUDENT, PARENT AND OFTEN AN EMPLOYEE. INCLUDED IN THIS SUPPORT IS A LICENSED COUNSELOR WHO IS AVAILABLE BY APPOINTMENT TO ASSIST THE SINGLE PARENT AS WELL AS HIS/HER CHILDREN.A NEW PROGRAM WAS CREATED IN 2018, GAP OR GRADUATE ADVANCEMENT PLAN. MANY OF THE GRADUATES OVER THE YEARS HAVE EXPRESSED A SENSE OF LOSS FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR GRADUATE PLANS. GAP WAS CREATED AS A 12 MONTH PROGRAM TO ASSIST THOSE TRANSITIONING INTO BEING FULL TIME WORKING EMPLOYEES. EIGHT OF OUR CURRENT YEAR GRADUATES HAVE ENROLLED IN THE PLAN. THE PARTICIPANTS CHECK IN AT A MINIMUM OF EVERY THREE MONTHS AND ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE BACK TO THE PROGRAM BY VOLUNTEERING WITHIN THE PROGRAM SUCH AS THROUGH THE ALUMNI CHAPTER EVENTS. THE PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSELING AS NEEDED AND SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE AS THEY TRANSITION OFF OF PUBLIC SUPPORT TO BEING SELF-SUFFICIENT INDIVIDUALS.
