Mission

Provide members of the general public an educational and enjoyable experience which is sensitive to native cultures and assists the Forest Service in protecting the site.

About

An unusually cool, wet, and long spring, lasting into June, brought our numbers down somewhat in 2019, although total visitation for the season was just under 13,000, not quite up to 2017 (pre-forest-fire) levels. A standout among our special events was the annual School Week at Chimney Rock, which hosted a new high of 474 students in 7 days.Recruitment of new volunteers went well in 2019 as it did in 2018. We had 18 new volunteers who worked with CRIA through the 2019 season.A successful self-guided pilot program of the entire site was launched the last 6 weeks of the season. Traditionally only half of the site was offered self-guided. This allowed visitors more access, at their own pace and time availability. This program is being used for the 2020 season.
