Mission

The American Safe Climbing Association is a non-profit organization of climbers who are dedicated to making the sport of rock climbing safer by replacing unsafe bolts and anchors and by educating climbers, land managers and the public about climbing and anchor safety.

About

The ASCA is composed of a group of dedicated volunteers who enjoy replacing deteriorating anchors on classic climbing routes. Each tax-deductible donation goes towards buying bolts and installing them in place of aging hardware at climbing areas all over North America. We have an extensive network of crag stewards and encourage experienced equippers to contact us for hardware to use in their replacement efforts. Since 1998, the ASCA has supplied over 60,000 bolts for replacement work. The ASCA was born in Yosemite and our replacement efforts initially focused on some of the longest classic routes in the western US, but have expanded to many different climbing areas with aging hardware. The next wave of replacement, which is well underway, is to upgrade our earliest “sport” climbing venues with modern bolts and lower-off anchors.
