Amplify Organizational Impact though Multi-Sector Coalitions and NetworksHousing California believes that many of the greatest opportunities for funding and policy change lie at the intersection of housing and other social issues, including criminal justice, health care, climate change, transportation, education and child welfare. The Organization works diligently to bring non-housing groups into its work, educate them about the role affordable housing and homelessness plays as an aid or hindrance for the goals they are trying to achieve, and engage them as housing justice advocates. The Organization plays a key role in uniting non-traditional partners through coalitions and networks which learn from each other and identify actions to heal historically broken relationships and collectively advance broader social equity and environmental justice solutions, including poverty, climate change, health, displacement, homelessness and incarceration. During 2018, Housing California organized its largest and most successful conference to-date with almost 1,700 participants and seventy-three workshops; expanded the leadership capacity of, and infrastructure for, the Residents United Network (RUN), a statewide network of affordable development resident leaders; and initiated efforts to expand RUN into the Inland Empire by building relationships with affordable housing developers, civic engagement, grassroots, academic institutions, and policy advocacy organizations. Housing California and partners developed a robust evaluation framework and set of tools for RUN which will continue to help inform the articulation of, and validation for, RUNs theory of change.Housing California also organized and implemented the following RUN-related leadership development and capacity building activities: web-based trainings; in-person cross-trainings with resident leadership programs in other states; multiple in-district and capitol visits to key legislators from across the state; social media efforts; two sets of regional meetings; and a statewide summit.Additional activities included: becoming a member of Californias leadership entity for Opportunity Starts at Home - a national multi-sector initiative whose goal is to meet the rental housing needs of the nations low-income people by advancing federal housing solutions which bridge the gap between income and housing costs, providing aid to people experiencing economic shocks, expanding the affordable housing stock for low-income renters and defending existing affordable housing resources; Housing Californias Executive Director was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to serve on the California Complete Count Committee which is tasked with recommending strategies to increase the count among hard to count communities; participated in the Public Health Institutes statewide health and housing collaborative which is comprised of health, tenants rights, and affordable housing partners for the purpose of developing opportunities to collectively advance shared housing as health policy priorities.
